History

Southaven was initially incorporated in 1980, immediately booming in population. For the next 20 years, Southaven doubled its land mass and the population has increased three fold. Southaven was initially founded as Memphis homebuilder Kemmons Wilson developed a few residential subdivisions featuring small homes just inside the Mississippi border. Southaven has become one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Southaven’s geographic location and safe environment, excellent school system, proximity to Memphis, local shops and overall family school atmosphere have all contributed to the rich growth that Southaven and the surrounding areas have experienced.

Parks and Recreation

The City of Southaven is home to a variety of beautiful parks and excellent recreational activities. Enjoy a variety of community sports including baseball, softball, soccer, and football or take advantage of the Snowden Grove Baseball Complex and Greenbrook Softball Complex. Other sports complexes include an eight-field soccer complex, and a four-field football complex. The City of Southaven also cares for a nine-hole golf course, the Southaven Skate Park, an 18-hole disc golf course located in Central Park, and 20 neighborhood parks with more than 200 acres of parkland. May brings Southaven’s Annual Fishing Rodeo at Saucier Park where children 4-12 can enjoy fishing for prizes and trophies. The Fourth of July beings several great celebrations including the Annual Patriotic Parade and live entertainment and an impressive fire-works display at Snowden Grove Park. Southaven offers a special program and complimentary lunch honoring our veterans on Veteran’s Day.
